Recreational Program
Our Recreational Program is perfect for individuals
who want to explore their interest in dance
or young dancers just starting out.
Recreational Classes are designed for those who want to have fun with dance but do not want the extra commitment
that comes with a competitive program.
We offer a variety of dance classes for children, teens, & adults of all skill levels & no previous dance experience is required.
Our classes include ballet, lyrical, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, theatre/novelty, tap, & acro dance styles.
Our dance year runs from September to June with all our classes performing in our Year End Show the first part of June.
Dancers & parents need to be aware that extra rehearsals are required the week before the dance show to help ensure dancers are comfortable on a stage setting. Every effort is made to keep this to a minimum.
Registration for our recreational classes is ongoing until January 31 of each year.
Competitive Programs
Being a part of a competitive program teaches increasingly advanced dance technique & choreography as well as life skills such as discipline, persistence, perseverance, commitment, attention to detail, emotional resilience, how to take honest, constructive feedback thus developing humility to be able to see yourself clearly so you can grow. Being part of the competitive program instills teamwork, good sportsmanship, confidence, compassion, empathy, kindness, and thus builds strong friendships as spend so much time together.
Depending on whether the program you choose is semi-competitive or full competitive we participate in two to five competitions a year. Expressions Dance carefully chooses each event to be sure that they all promote positivity and encouragement in dance.
All classes labelled (SC or C) on our schedule are part of our competition program.
Competitive classes have a higher expectation for dancers and require a strong level of commitment and dedication.
A recommendation from a Director is needed to register for these classes.
Participation in the competitive team occasionally requires extra practices outside of regular scheduled classes as well as active involvement from parents/guardians.
Ballet provides the technical foundation that all other dance styles are built on and is a requirement any competitive class. Musical Theatre is also highly recommended as the skills learned here promote expression and thus improves presentation greatly in performances.
When a dancer or group has reached the technical skill level and emotional maturity needed for competitions we invite them to participate. We always love to know if a dancer has a desire to join the competition team so that we can work together to reach that goal.
Semi - Competitive Program
This program is perfect for dancers who want to develop their skills to a higher level & explore more opportunities to
perform & experience the competitive stage.
Semi-comp dancers attend 1 to 3 competitions each year.
To date some competitions have been local but they could also be out of town.
The commitment level is higher than the recreational program but not to the commitment level of full competitive.
Full Competitive Program
In this program technique & choreography classes are separated to give more opportunity to maximize potential for dancers
who want to take dance further. More time training develops stronger technique & performance qualities, & travelling builds stronger team bonds & creates close friendships between dancers as well as parents.
Full competitive classes require a strong level of commitment & dedication from dancers & parents alike.
The full time competitive team attends 4 to 5 competitions per year.
Participation in the competitive team occasionally requires extra practises outside of regular scheduled classes.
As mentioned above Ballet provides the technical foundations that all other styles of dance are built on & is a requirement for
all full competitive dancers and Musical Theatre teaches expression to promote presentation in performances.
We always like to know if a dancer has a desire to join the competitive team so we can work together to reach that goal.
When a dancer has reached the technical skill level & emotional maturity needed for competitions we invite them to participate.
Recommendation from a Director is needed to register for these classes.
